The Philippines held its biggest energy show, the Future Energy Show Philippines, last September 7-8, 2022 at the SMX convention center on the Mall of Asia grounds. The two-day activity showcase how the Philippines would lean toward a greener future by using renewable energy and how the Philippines can resolve its energy crisis. More than 4000 participants attended the event and many foreign companies showed interest in displaying and sharing their portfolios at the convention.
Many Attendees were excited to know that the show would be a face-to-face event this year. When the gates open on the first day the queues for each booth were long and the crowd was patiently waiting in line to receive their stamps for the raffle. The convention was very interactive with the crowd when it comes to the different forums of discussion. This is proof that the Philippines is slowly moving forward and transitioning to a more renewable-friendly source of energy.
According to the discussions on the show. The Philippines has a big potential when it comes to renewable energy sources due to its geographic location. It is in the path of the ring of fire which can be used for geothermal energy, it is near the equator meaning constant sunlight for solar energy, the Philippines receives an average of 20 storms per year making it great for hydroelectric power and it has a long coastline that can harness both wild and tidal energy.
Most of the exhibitors showcase both old and new technologies and the majority of them came from China, Taiwan, Singapore, and India. We are able to see a solar inverter as big as a dining table and as small as a plate. Most of the solar panels that are displaced are monocrystalline panels of different sizes. I was able to see a modern PERC panel displayed by a western company. Some software companies also showcase how they will be able to monitor the energy that each solar panel produces.
On the second day of the convention, the crowd was still plenty, and just like the first day the queues were still long. More topics were discussed during the second day like financing the Philippines’ renewable energy future and Reliable power sources for the Philippines. By the end of the second day, new knowledge and happy faces were given by participants of the convention, and many hoped that in the near future the Philippines would have a big renewable energy platform just like what European countries and Australia have in their respective continents.
